About the artist
Photographer Ben Wood is based at his studio in Bembridge on the Isle of Wight off the coast of southern England. Living on the island with its beautiful landscape and world class sailing at Cowes both inspires and informs Ben's ever evolving portfolio. He started his career at the age of 21 following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather who ran a portrait studio in Baker Street, London. After a few years assisting photographers such as David Bailey and Don Freeman, Ben struck out on his own. Ben is best known for his signature sepia marine work but he has diversified widely since joining Trowbridge in 2003 and now has an impressive selection of work encompassing his best -selling boat bows collection, classic motor-racing, horse racing, landscapes and his highly successful shell series. Ben exhibits widely and has recently shown his equine photography at Gallery 54 in Mayfair, London and the Apremont Polo Club in Paris, France. In 2013 Ben was commissioned by the owners of the classic yacht Mariquita to produce a book and series of documentary films to mark a three year campaign that saw the yacht racing throughout Europe. Ben visited regattas in Antibes, Barcelona, Naples, Cannes and Saint Tropez. The resulting coffee table book was shortlisted for the prestigious British Book Design and Production Awards 2017
