Ernestine Virden Cannon was the partner of the architect and tile designer Matteo D’Agostino, and she lived with him in Italy during World War II. Cannon’s painting skills and D’Agostino’s involvement in Italy’s ceramics industry were an excellent match.

Fun Fact:  A cachepot is a French term for what is usually called in modern English a "planter" or for older examples a jardiniere, namely a decorative container or "overpot" for a plant and its flowerpot, for indoors use, usually with no drainage hole at the bottom, or sometimes with a matching saucer.
